Husna was awarded the 2nd prize along with a 1000 SAR ($266 USD) award for her research poster presentation at a National Level Genetic Medicine Conference. Congratulations Husna!

BioMedizone's 2 Year Anniversary
On August 10, BioMedizone celebrated its 2 year anniversary!
In the last 2 years, BioMedizone grew from a team of 10 people to a team of nearly 180.
We've added 5 new departments and impacted over 10K students in 30+ countries.

BioMedizone Jamaica was proud to represent BioMedizone at the Opportunity X Summer Camp, where they discussed the mechanics of water, chemical color manipulation, strawberry DNA, and homemade shaken ice cream. Well done BioMedizone Jamaica!

BioMedizone NC hosted a week long virtual summer camp on medicine, inviting 15-20 students from around NC to hear from professors from East Carolina University. Well done BioMedizone NC!

Dr. Manzoor Ahkeel spoke to Camp Biomed about gene therapy and its numerous uses in biotechnology and medicine in modern healthcare.

💉 Past Event: Research Competition
In August, we held an Immunology Research Competition, which had over 80 participants! We read a lot of amazing research papers about the potential implications on shifting from vaccines to targeted therapies.
Results will be posted the week of 9/9!

👨⚕️ Upcoming Event:
Webinar Series
In September, we will have a 2 day medical webinar series for the pathway to med school.
Day 1 will consist of a pre-med student speaking about what to do in high school to become a doctor and Day 2 will be intended for current college students who are planning on attending med school!
Nevertheless, the webinars are open to all audiences.

Murder Mystery
In October, since it's the month of Halloween, we are going to have a Forensics/Pathology Murder Mystery Event!
We will have professionals in forensics/pathology present a case and participants will utilize forensics principles to create a hypothesis and other findings.

Breaking News in Biomedicine August 2024
- Researchers are teaching AI about frustration in protein folding at Rice University. Recent AI technology is able to predict what proteins look like in their resting state, but figuring out their movement has been difficult... until now.
- Lecanemab (Leqembi) received full FDA approval. This drug removes amyloid plaques in the brain and has been shown to slow cognitive decline by about 30% over 18 months
- A new pill for postpartum depression has been approved, offering a more convenient treatment option compared to the previous 60-hour intravenous infusion
New Neuroscience Internship!
This 10-week internship provides an overview of various biopsychological and neurological disorders, exploring their diagnostic criteria, symptoms, and underlying neurobiological mechanism. Each week, students in the course focus on different disorders, including mood, anxiety and neurodevelopmental disorders. Students will work closely with a premedical UC Davis College student, through a span of 3 consecutive months.
Start Date: Sept 28, 2024, meetings every friday

Open Positions at BioMedizone
- Researcher: Create monthly research papers based on research topics and be featured on our socials and get published in our monthly research journals, gain access to various virtual labs to enhance your learning and research process, offered multiple revisions for your paper by our skilled research directors
- Outreach/Graphic Design: Create social media posts, reels, videos, etc. to help us promote our cause; make TikToks and instagram reels to expand our reach
- Course Director: Lead and create a course of your choosing for BioMedizone. You can choose between surgery, clinical skills, gastroenterology, psychology, and biomedical programming.
- Course Intern: Assist the course director in creating the course of your choosing. We have multiple openings for this position.
- Grant Writer: Assist BioMedizone by helping create a financial backing for all our events and initiatives. Create grant applications and reach out to companies for sponsorships.
- Software Developer/SWE Intern: You can either assist with a long-term project (software developer) or offer your expertise for a short term project (SWE intern). In both of these roles, you will be collaborating with others with varying backgrounds and skillsets to create and code medical games, apps, and other digital tools that will be useful for STEM learning.
