Member Accomplishments

BioMedizone has had its fair share of accomplishments this month, but our members have made their own educational, professional, and personal accomplishments this month!

Muhammad Benjelloun, Immunology Intern

Muhammad presented about the connection between Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology at the Annual ASSET Conference. Congrats Muhammad!

Anshi received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her service at BioMedizone. Congratulations Anshi!

Alan Kim, President of BioMedizone California

Alan and his team at BioMedizone California created a protein visualizer using software in collaboration with Santa Clara University. With this, they were able to teach younger students about DNA, amino acids, and protein construction. This software was then embedded in his local school district's AP Biology curriculum. Congrats Alan and the rest of BioMedizone California!

BioMedizone Maryland's Event

BioMedizone Maryland held a BioMed Winter Workshop, where they taught middle school students about the basics of biomedicine and research. Way to go BioMedizone Maryland!

Publication in Upcoming Book

BioMedizone founders Anvi Palav and Lara Karaalp will be co-authors of Youth Changemakers--an ISBN registered book empowering student-led projects. It will be available for purchase in Fall 2025.

BioMedizone was featured on Patch News for our significant accomplishments in reaching 100,000 students around the world in 50+ different countries.

BioMedizone UAE's Blue Day Booth

BioMedizone UAE participated in their local Blue Day, or "World Men's Health Day," where volunteers set up three stalls and fundraised 500 DHS ~ $136 USD. Well done BioMedizone UAE

Hitting Over 1M Views on Instagram

This month has been great for BioMedizone outreach! Multiple of our reels have crossed 100K views, with our total view count reaching about 1M.

BioMedizone's Opportunity Database

BioMedizone has just released an opportunity database full of research positions, scholarships, educational resources like free online textbooks and study guides, summer programs, internships, year-round programs, conferences, leadership positions, and competitions all in the field of biomedicine and STEM. This database is constantly updating with new opportunities.

You can access the database at our website under the Resources tab. Kudos to our Tech Team!

BioMedizone California's New App

BioMedizone California, led by Alan Kim, developed an app called "Jobify" designed to assist homeless individuals in finding available shelters, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

This app has been submitted as an entry for a local competition, with hope to gain resources to make it available to their immediate California community. Fingers crossed for our California Chapter!

BioMedizone's First Medical Game

Our BioMedizone Software Developers and SWE Interns have worked really hard to produce our first ever medical game: "Pathway to Medical School"

In this virtual game, users can shadow various doctors in a number of medical fields, and then use medical-decision making to create treatment plans based on individual case studies.

Congrats to our project manager Lara Karaalp and Software Team members Muhammad Umar, Riteesha Lingechetty, and Pavan Kumpatla!

BioMedizone Jamaica was proud to represent BioMedizone at the Opportunity X Summer Camp, where they discussed the mechanics of water, chemical color manipulation, strawberry DNA, and homemade shaken ice cream. Well done BioMedizone Jamaica!

BioMedizone NC's Virtual Summer Camp

BioMedizone NC hosted a week long virtual summer camp on medicine, inviting 15-20 students from around NC to hear from professors from East Carolina University. Well done BioMedizone NC!

Camp Biomed 2024

We successfully held our largest event: Camp Biomed 2024. With corporate sponsorships, guest speakers, and mentors, we were able to advance academia and provide top students with sponsorships to elevate their research endeavors. We reached 300+ students from 25+ countries through this event.

Immunology Research Competition

BioMedizone held an immunology research competition, where student papers were judged by a University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill Immunology Student. Winning papers are set for publication in the Global Youth STEM Journal.

Murder Mystery Event

BioMedizone held a Murder Mystery event in conjunction with a PhD student in forensic and pathological sciences from Vanderbilt University. Students received mentorship in order to crack the case about the murder.

Neuroscience Research Internship

BioMedizone held a neuroscience research internship with a undergraduate student studying Neuroscience at the University of California--Davis.

Immunology Research Internship

BioMedizone held an immunology research internship with a medical student from Saudi Arabia who is specializing in immunology.

Our New Advisory Board

BioMedizone now has an advisory board, with professors, researchers, and physicians to guide our initiatives. Board members include Dr. Priyanka Porwal PhD, Dr. Uma Chourasia MBBS & MD, Zuha Ajlan MSc, and Dr. Kausik Chakrabati PhD.

BioMedizone North Texas held a card making event to donate cards to pediatric patients at the Texas Healthcare Hospital. Way to go BioMedizone North Texas!

BioMedizone Turkey participated in their local leukemia walk, where they advocated for leukemia research and promoted BioMedizone.

We're hosting our first ever INNOVATION CONFERENCE. In a team, you'll work together to create an innovative solution to a public health problem, present your solution to judges, and enter the running for a Stanford Intersect publication, .xyz sponsorship, and possible press release!

๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ March 2025: Research Competition

In March 2025, we will be hosting a research competition in partnership with URNCST, an undergraduate-focused, peer-reviewed journal based in Canada. Students will be able to work in teams with at least one undergraduate student in each team.

Back for our 3rd year, in 2025 BioMedizone will host its biggest ever Camp Biomed. With new speakers, topics, virtual labs, and more, students will have opportunities like never before.

Breaking News in Biomedicine December 2024

  • Dutch researchers have identified five molecular subtypes of Alzheimer's disease, paving the way for more personalized treatments. This could significantly improve the management of symptoms and slow disease progression
  • GLP-1 Drugs Beyond Obesity: The FDA approved semaglutide, a GLP-1 analogue, for reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. New trial results also show that it can treat heart failure and alleviate knee arthritis pain
  • Cardiac Rehab Enrollment Disparities: A study found significant disparities in cardiac rehab enrollment rates among hospitals, with fewer than 1% of centers achieving an enrollment rate greater than 70%. This highlights the need for improved access to cardiac rehab for all patients

  • Researcher: Create monthly research papers based on research topics and be featured on our socials and get published in our monthly research journals, gain access to various virtual labs to enhance your learning and research process, offered multiple revisions for your paper by our skilled research directors
  • Outreach/Graphic Design: Create social media posts, reels, videos, etc. to help us promote our cause; make TikToks and instagram reels to expand our reach
  • Grant Writer: Assist BioMedizone by helping create a financial backing for all our events and initiatives. Create grant applications and reach out to companies for sponsorships.
